Measure your space for wallpaper

Measure your space for wallpaper

I understand that buying wallpaper online can raise many questions. How much material will I need? Do I have to order extra? How do I calculate?
Here I'll tell you how to measure so you don't get any surprises. It's not complicated, but it's a crucial step to ensure everything goes smoothly. Avoid measuring with mobile apps. They're usually not very accurate. Always use a tape measure, the traditional one.
Measure the width and height of the wall in cm. Never use decimal numbers, round up instead, for example, if your wall measures 350.5 cm, rounding it up would be 351 cm. Add 10 cm to the total measurements to be sure. Walls are never perfectly straight.

WALLS WITH IRREGULARITIES

As I mentioned above, walls are never perfectly straight. When measuring a wall, it's best to take measurements at different points. For example, if measuring the width of the wall, measure at the top and bottom. Do the same with the height, measure the height at the left corner and at the right corner. When ordering your wallpaper, use the larger measurement to ensure you cover the entire wall. Sometimes walls have other types of irregularities like bumps or depressions that are not visible but become apparent when installing the wallpaper. It may happen that the pattern doesn't match between panels for this reason. I suggest you either continue with the work or stop, but never pull the material or try to force it to match. Experience tells us that the best option when this happens is to try to align the panels without pulling and continue installing the rest. These issues often occur in small areas of the wall, and once the work is finished, it's hardly noticeable.

CALCULATING WALLPAPER QUANTITY

Designs with repeating patterns. Our wallpaper comes in panels designed to be installed side by side, without overlap. To calculate how many panels you need for your project, refer to the examples provided below.
Rectangular wall:
  1. Measure the width of the wall at its widest and tallest part.
  2. Divide the total width by 73 cm (which is the width of our panel).
  3. Measure the height at its highest point. Add the suggested 10 cm. Do not include baseboards or crown molding.
  4. Choose from the list the length that is closest to your wall's length and round up.

Example:

  • The wall's width is 287 x 240 cm.
  • Calculation: 287 / 73 cm = 3.93
  • Number of panels needed: 4
  • Panel option #3: 73 x 240 cm (only if the walls are perfectly straight).
  • Panel option #4: 73 x 270 cm (with extra material above and below, crucial for less straight walls).

WINDOWS DOORS AND IRREGULAR WALLS
If the wall you are covering has a window, door or irregular shape, we suggest to order a full wall of wallpaper as if there were no doors or windows and install and cut around the elements when applying. This is the safest way to order this type of wall, ensures the pattern to match throughout  and leaves no room for mistakes in measurements.

MURALS

Murals are simpler. The measuring method is the same. It's just that murals come in predetermined sizes. There are several options to choose from. If you don't find any that fit your wall's measurements, you can write to us, and we will adapt the design to your measurements.
